Konstvägen Sju älvar is a 350 kilometer long art exhibition, that stretches from the coast in Holmsund in the east, to Borgafjäll at the mountains of South Lappland in the west. A tour along the art road is not only an experience of the 13 art pieces, but also an experience of the nature and the cultural history.
The art road was created and developed through different projects. The first project, that started in 1994 and was completed in 1998, aimed to create and place art pieces in the nature along the art road. Ten artists were selected to travel along the road, study the nature and present suggestions of art pieces in dialog with an art council. Thereafter the suggestions were presented to the municipalities along the road, to landowners and to the public. In 1996 the first art piece “Väg ledning” was completed. Most of the other art pieces were completed in 1998.
The latest project, that started in 2001 and was completed in 2004, was concentrated on marketing and a densification of art. The 11th art piece “Nybyggarkvinnan” was finished in 2003 and the 12th “Återkallelse” in 2004.
During the project periods, an investment in marketing has been done. Fairs and materials for the exhibition, such as rollups have been produced. A video of 28 minutes, that describes a journey made by Tomas Tidholm, Imri Sandström and David Sandström along the art road has also been produced. It is a meeting between creative people with words and music as the main means of expression and art pieces, each and everyone with their own story to tell. For those interested, the video and the rollups can be found at the municipalities along the art road. Newsletters and information materials have been produced and distributed and this, in combination with a strong advertisement, has created a great interest in the art road Konstvägen Sju älvar.
