The House of the Vittra is located in the village Östernoret, about a 12 kilometer drive outside of Åsele center. The cave formation is reached through a hike along a simple hiking path over the Vitter-bog and through the forest. A wood bridge leads over the Vitter-bog, from where one can catch a glimpse of some Vittras at the forest edge and footbridges simplefies the hiking along some parts of the path.

Vandringsleden är lättframkomlig och passar utmärkta att gå med barn. Leden slutar vid Vitterhuset där det finns en grillplats och bänkar där man kan ta en fikapaus och beundra den mäktiga stenformationen.

The adventurous visitor can also explore the Adventure-trail that runs through the forest around the cave formation. The Adventure-trail consists of different obstacles that the visitors shall make their way over, under or through. One reaches the Adventure-trail along a side path of the hiking path that leads to the House of the Vittra, or through the stairs that leads to the top of the mountain that the House of the Vittra rests beside. At the mountaintop there is a vantage tower, from where one has a stunning view over the surrounding forest landscape and the lake Vispsjön.

After the hike back to the starting point, the visitor can end the trip with a cooling bath at the beach of Vispsjön.

How to get here:

• From Åsele, drive along road 90 towards Junsele.
• After about 12 kilometers you will reach the village Östernoret. There you will find a sign towards “Vitterhuset” (theHous of the Vittra).
• Make a left at the sign and drive along the gaveled road until you reach the beach of Vispsjön.
• Park the car at the beach and follow the signs along the hiking path towards the House of the Vittra.
